Turkmen horse festival held in Iran’s Bojnurd

A festival dedicated to the beauty of the Turkmen horse breed has been held in Iran’s Bojnurd, North Khorasan Province.

The festival was held on October 07, 2012 after three years halt over the outbreak of the coronavirus.

A selection of 35 horses from different Iranian provinces, including Tehran, Golestan, Semnan, and Khorasan Razavi, took part in the festival.

The festival is annually held in North Khorasan, one of the world’s largest genetic reserves of pure Turkmen horses.

Iranian Turkmen horses are dominantly found in the pasturelands of Turkmen Sahra, a region sandwiched between Iran and Turkmenistan.

Nobility, bravery, endurance, purity, and of course, beauty are the features that describe Iranian Turkmen horses.

Many locals believe that breeding such horses is one of the toughest jobs in the world.

Khorasan and Golestan Provinces are the core locations to find Persian Turkmen horses. These are the cities with the most purebred classes of this kind.

However, Gonbad-e Kavus and Jargalan are the two counties of Iran where you can meet the main breeders of the industry.

Iran and Turkmenistan have recently put forward the Turkmen horses as a candidate for inclusion in UNESCO’S list for Intangible Cultural Heritage.
